Most people would agree that rest and recreation are as important as work. Different people choose different ways of spending their holidays. The most popular among them is travelling.
Travelling nowadays has become an essential part of modern life. Millions of people all over the world travel about their own countries and to foreign lands as well. They are eager to see and explore new places and learn more about different ways of life.
Travelling has become a highly organized business in many countries. There are cars and buses and splendid roads, express trains, huge ships and jet air liners. Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and most convenient way of getting from one place to another. Flying is a thrilling thing, in itself as it saves time. But it is the most expensive means too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages as well. On a train you enjoy the comfort and pleasure of relaxation. Long distance trains have convenient timetables of departures and arrivals.
Travelling by train in the daytime may seem tiring to some people while others enjoy talking to their fellow passengers or just watching the changing landscape through the window. You don’t need to take much food with you as you can have a cup of tea or coffee without leaving your compartment. Some people like night journeys. They enjoy sleeping on board the train which is soothing and comforting.
I prefer travelling by plane. The last long-distance journey I have made was two years ago when I went to Canada to visit my relatives. I went there with my parents. We booked our tickets in advance and on the day of the departure we arrived at the airport two hours before the flight. We went to the check-in desk and soon we were invited to get on board the plane, which took off without delay. We safely landed at the Toronto airport in eight hours. I was a bit scared when the plane was taking off, but the air hostess brought drinks and food and I felt quite comfortable during the flight. Our journey went on smoothly and I liked it very much.
I am looking forward to a day when I can afford extensive travelling to far-away countries where there are a lot of unique and beautiful places to see.
